Winter Animal Tracking Hike at Nolde Environmental Education Center
Description
Try your hand at animal tracking after a freshly fallen snow. If it's actively snowing, we will include snowflake identification. Did you know that you can look at a snowflake with a magnifying glass and tell what is going on with the weather based on the structure of the crystals?
This workshop will be scheduled with a few days' notice once snow is in the forecast for the Berks County area. Registration places you on an email list once snow looks likely and the event can officially be scheduled. The hike will take place 9am-noon; animal tracks are most visible in the morning before snow starts to melt and winds pick up. Potential dates include January 26- March 13.
The hike will be about 3 miles with moderate uphills and downhills. Participants must dress for the weather. Have extra layers to stay warm and dry; bring water, snacks, and personal first aid. Suggested footwear will be communicated with participants based on the snowfall. This may include: snowshoes, micro spikes, or yak tracks to ensure firm footing.
Date: TBD based on snow; target is January 26- March 13
Time: 9am-noon
Cost: donations welcome at the trailhead
